On October 2, 40 English teachers from several Mexican states have completed the 100 hour residential component of IAPE Inspiring English Teachers I. In addition to the 42 teachers who participated in the beginning of September, 82 new teachers have been incorporated into the IAPE network of educators. During this residential component, all the teachers learned to apply the Rassias® methodology in their teaching while also gaining more confidence in their own language abilities.

“Give them a better life, give them a better future,” Raúl López, the IAPE Academic Coordinator who oversees these workshops, reminds the teachers in this cohort as he did for the past group in the program’s last reflective meeting. López says this to reiterate the program’s key characteristics: empathy and sense of community towards students.

These 10 intensive program days form the IAPE Inspiring English Teacher I’s first phase, which continues with a service commitment of three years. This service commitment emphasizes that the teachers apply what they have learned in the workshops into Mexican public schools. During this process, they can count on the IAPE community through an online forum and follow-up workshops.

IAPE is a partnership of Educando and Dartmouth College’s Rassias Center for World Languages and Cultures.
