Carlos Labarthe Costas is President of Compartamos, group that is listed on the Mexican Stock Exchange and which groups eight companies in order to work for financial inclusion.

Three of these companies are focused on offering financial services for the underserved segment in Mexico, Peru, and Guatemala, under the brand of Compartamos. The other five companies are focused on different financial services, formed by Aterna, insurance agent; Yastás, banking correspondent administrator; Intermex, payer of family remittances; Fiinlab, innovation laboratory which purpose is creating financial solutions enabled by technology; and Fundación Gentera, focused on the social responsibility actions, its main cause, the education.

Carlos Labarthe is Industrial Engineer from Universidad Anáhuac and has studies on Senior Management by Instituto Panamericano de Alta Dirección de Empresas, (IPADE). He has also studied different programs at The Economics Institute in Boulder, Harvard Business School, and Singularity University.

He is the founder director of Compartamos and Ignia. He is also chairman of Kipling Group and is a member of the board of Educando by Worldfund.

In the academic field, he has taught at different institutions, such as Universidad Iberoamericana, the Social Training Course (CUFOSO) -of the Unión Social de Empresarios de México (USEM) – and the Harvard Business School.

In 2015, he was recognized by the Great Place to Work Institute and the Wobi Magazine as The Most Trusted CEO in Mexico.

Marcelo Gleiser is a theoretical physicist specialized in cosmology and high energy physics, complexity theory, and astrobiology. He has been at Dartmouth College since 1991. 

His undergraduate degree was from the Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (1981), followed by a Masters from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1982), and a Ph.D. from King’s College London (1986). He was a postdoctoral fellow at Fermilab (1986-1988) and at the Institute for Theoretical Physics at the University of California, Santa Barbara (1988-1991). 

He is a Fellow and past General Councilor of the American Physical Society and a recipient of the Presidential Faculty Fellows Award from the White House and NSF. Apart from his research and teaching, Marcelo is also very active in the public understanding of science, having authored five books in English translaed into 12 languages, and hundreds of essays in magazines and newspapers around the world. 

A frequent presence in science documentaries and shows, he is the co-founder of and, for eight years, regular contributor to a blog on science and culture hosted by National Public Radio, 13.7. Currently, he writes a weekly essay for the online Orbiter magazine.

Marcelo is the 2019 winner of the Templeton Prize. Gleiser joins an eminent roster of 48 past awardees, including Mother Teresa, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, and the Dalai Lama. The prize carries a monetary award of 1.1 million British pounds, or about $1.4 million.
